Child Psychology
Psychiatric Services for Children
Childhood is full of growth and wonder—but big emotions and early challenges can get in the way. I provide compassionate psychiatric care to help children and families build resilience, confidence, and connection from the start.
Available in-person in Brentwood and virtually across Tennessee and California
For Clients Aged 3–14 years
What they’re going through
Your child may be struggling with fears, emotional outbursts, or difficulty adjusting to school, routines, or relationships. These early challenges can leave both children and parents feeling confused, stuck, or overwhelmed.
Even when kids can’t fully express what they’re going through, their behaviors often speak volumes.
When should you seek psychiatric treatment for your child?
It can be hard to know when a child’s struggles are part of a normal developmental phase and when they may need more specialized support. You might notice that your child seems increasingly overwhelmed, disconnected, reactive, or simply not quite like themselves.
Sometimes the signs are subtle at first, showing up in routines, relationships, school, sleep, or the way they respond to everyday stress. If these changes persist or begin interfering with your child’s well-being, psychiatric care can help you better understand what’s happening and what kind of support may make a meaningful difference.
Your child’s emotions feel unusually intense, frequent, or difficult for them to recover from
School performance, attendance, or motivation has changed in a way that feels out of character
Your child is withdrawing from friends, family, activities, or experiences they once enjoyed
Daily routines like sleep, meals, or getting ready have become consistently difficult
Support at home or school hasn’t been enough to help them feel better
There are also certain diagnoses or issues which often need the support of a psychiatrist: “neurodevelopmental differences” such as diagnoses of Autism, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and other similar conditions.
But even beyond these reasons, you can always call a psychiatrist or mental health professional if you’re wondering about how to improve your child’s quality of life: to help them go from just scraping by to thriving, feeling fulfilled, and fully supported.
How I help children
At Inspire Youth Psychiatry and Wellness, I care for the whole child—emotionally, developmentally, and relationally.
I provide treatment that’s tailored to your child’s unique needs, combining evidence-based therapy, parent support, and lifestyle recommendations. When appropriate, I may also incorporate medication to reduce distress and help your child thrive.
With the right care, kids can learn to understand their feelings, build healthy habits, and feel safe in their world again.
What to expect in your child psychiatry care sessions
Sessions are offered both in-person or virtually and may involve a mix of child-focused therapy, family involvement, and parent-only coaching.
I use developmentally appropriate, evidence-informed approaches such as behavioral therapy, mindfulness, lifestyle changes, and when needed, medication management. In many cases, we’ll work closely with you as the parent—using techniques like parent management training or PCIT to strengthen the home environment and improve outcomes.
When families are actively involved, progress tends to be faster, deeper, and more lasting.
What makes psychiatric care at Inspire different?
At Inspire, psychiatric care starts with understanding the whole child—not just identifying a diagnosis or managing symptoms.
I take time to consider their personality, strengths, relationships, routines, development, and the environment around them before deciding what support may be most helpful. Treatment is collaborative and thoughtful, combining evidence-based psychiatry with practical guidance for parents and medication only when it genuinely fits the bigger picture.
The goal is to help your child feel more understood and supported while giving your family greater clarity about how to move forward.
Meet Your Child Psychiatrist
I’m Dr. Bayan Jalalizadeh, a child psychiatrist trained at Stanford and Washington University School of Medicine.
I’m board-certified in both general and child/adolescent psychiatry and licensed in Tennessee and California. My approach blends gold-standard psychiatric care with purpose-driven, values-based therapy. I’ve spent over two decades working with youth—through clinical care, creative programming, and community service.
It’s not just my profession—it’s my passion.
Who I work with
I support children experiencing anxiety, emotional dysregulation, behavior challenges, or developmental concerns. Many of the kids I work with are sensitive, imaginative, or highly perceptive—and just need a little help navigating a big-feeling world.
If your child is struggling to enjoy childhood or connect with others, I’m here to help your family find clarity and calm.

Insurance Notice
We are a private-pay practice and do not accept commercial insurance or Medicare. At Inspire, we’re proud to offer exceptional individualized care with a high-touch, integrative, and collaborative approach—and unfortunately, traditional insurance models often place burdens that would make that impossible, limiting the time, attention, and quality of care we deliver. Since we are out-of-network, we work diligently to provide the highest quality care and service to you to make the best use of your time and resources.
We also provide receipts called Superbills upon request, and we encourage you to submit these to your health insurance carrier for out-of-network reimbursement. Also, if appropriate, you can request a “network gap exception” from your insurance carrier, which means they will pay for a higher amount of your appointment fees as if you were staying in-network; these are often granted if your insurance company can’t provide you with a certain type of care within a reasonable time frame. To determine what your personal costs will be or how your insurance carrier will reimburse you, please contact your carrier directly.
